Christmas is my favourite time of year. Christmas has always been a big occasion in my life. I remember growing up, getting presents, spending time with people I care about and stuffing my face with turkey. There is a number of reasons why I and most of the world love this time of year.
Personally I think family is the most important thing in life. They’re always there for you whenever you need them and when s**t hits the fan they’re usually the only people who will back you up. It is one of the few times of the year when all of my family sits down and spend some good quality time together. Unfortunately. this year my sister has left for Australia to better herself. It’s the first time we won’t all be together. In Ireland, its a great tradition to go to your grandmothers house. (Usually they bark on about going to mass.) Family once again gathers here and you get to spend time together and create a tighter bond as a family. Family is the most important thing in my life and Christmas brings us all together.
2. Christmas Decorations:
It’s usually the time when all my neighbours light up their homes and try to have the best decorated house. When I was a kid my Mom would take my brother, sister and I out to random estates and neighbourhoods and look at all the decorations. Seeing Christmas lights makes me feel the Christmas spirit and brings back all the memories of when I was a kid. Almost every house in Ireland has a Christmas tree. Every year, the tree in my house is put on December 8th and usually when the tree is put up, my festive spirit starts to kick in and Christmas has properly arrived.
I’l be the first to admit it. I love the free stuff. Basically you can ask “Santa” for whatever you want (within reason) and you would get it. It’s that simple. I love going to my aunt’s and uncle’s houses and collecting all the free money. People might think this is selfish but most people think this way too. I don’t immediately think of the baby Jesus like my Religion thought me. Free stuff is another major reason why I love this time of year.
I’m secretly a fat blob. I love food. I love eating it. I love the smell of cooking Turkey. I just love food. Christmas dinner is usually made by my dad as he is the better cook.(Feminists be happy) At Christmas we get a Massive turkey and a joint of ham and typical Irish potatoes and sexy gravy.(I’m now fucking hungry). I love the massive feast and the opportunity to pig out and feel good about it.
I love Christmas songs. Although they’re cheesy, it gets me in the festive spirit. I know I’m not alone in my loving of Christmas songs. When I hear a song like “Last Christmas I gave you my Heart” or “Ya Scumbag, Ya maggot”. Â I can’t help but sing or hum along. (Depending on who’s around) Christmas songs make Christmas,
6. School/College Break:
When Christmas comes so does the Christmas break. I’ve been in some sort of education for the last 14 years and the Christmas the break is just perfect. Its half way through the school/college year. It gives me a chance to catch up on sleep and do some of my own work, hobbies and eat.
So Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love the family time, food, presents, cheesy songs and the big long Christmas break. No matter how old I am I will always celebrate the Christmas season.
